Searching for Hyrox training near you? Train every station at TNT Fitness in Cowan Bridge, near Kirkby Lonsdale and Ingleton, and use the winter to build for a spring race.
You've booked a Hyrox race, or you're about to, and now you need somewhere to train for it. Your usual gym has a treadmill and some dumbbells, but no sled, no ski erg and nobody who has actually raced one. And you don't want to drive into town every time you need a sled.
If you live around Kirkby Lonsdale, Ingleton, Bentham or Carnforth and you've been typing "Hyrox training near me", this guide is for you. We'll cover what the race asks of you, how to use the winter months to build for a spring event, and how to train every station under one roof at TNT Fitness in Cowan Bridge.
What Hyrox Actually Asks of You
Hyrox is a fitness race built around running. You run 1km, complete a workout station, then run another 1km, eight times over. The stations come in a fixed order:
- 1,000m SkiErg
- 50m sled push
- 50m sled pull
- 80m burpee broad jumps
- 1,000m row
- 200m farmers carry
- 100m sandbag lunges
- 100 wall balls
That's 8km of running with eight blocks of hard work stitched in between. In our experience, people rarely struggle because one station is impossible. They fade because their legs are already cooked from the sled when they reach the lunges, and their running falls apart in the second half.
So good Hyrox training isn't about being brilliant at any single station. It's about running well while tired, and staying efficient on the stations when your heart rate is already high.
Why Winter Is When Hyrox Races Are Won
If you're racing in spring, November to February is your build. It's the least glamorous part of the year to train, and it's exactly where most of your result gets decided.
Dark evenings and wet lanes make it easy to slip into skipping sessions. A gym with the right kit gives you somewhere to do the work regardless of the weather. You can run indoors when the A65 is lashing with rain, then get straight onto the sled and the ski erg without packing the car twice.
We'd split the winter roughly like this:
- November and December: build your engine and your strength. Easy aerobic running, steady rowing and ski erg work, plus heavy lifting for legs and grip.
- January: start joining things up. Run, then station, then run again, at a controlled pace.
- February onwards: race-specific work. Longer combined sessions, practising transitions and pacing a full simulation before race day.
You don't need to be fit to start this. You need to start early enough that the build has time to work.
Training Every Hyrox Station at TNT Fitness
This is where a lot of people get stuck. Hyrox stations need specific kit, and plenty of general gyms don't have all of it. At TNT, you can train every station on site.
Sled push and sled pull
We have a 10m sled track, so a full 50m race distance is five lengths. That's easy to plan around, and it means you can practise turning quickly at each end, which is free time in a race. Low body position, short fast steps and arms locked: that's where most people find their sled improvements.
SkiErg and row
Our ski erg and Concept2 rowers let you train both 1,000m pieces properly. Work on a sustainable stroke rate rather than going out hard. A fast first 250m on the ski erg is how a lot of races go wrong before they've really started.
Farmers carry and sandbag lunges
Kettlebells and dumbbells cover your carries, and we have sandbags for your lunges. Grip and quad endurance are the two things these stations expose, and both respond well to regular, focused strength work.
Burpee broad jumps and wall balls
Our 85m² matted area gives you room for burpee broad jumps, and there are wall balls for the last station. Wall balls come at the very end, on tired legs, so practise them after running, not just when you're fresh.
Classes That Build Hyrox Fitness
You don't have to programme all of this alone. Several of our classes carry straight over to race day:
- T-Rox: dynamic functional movements for total-body strength and conditioning, every session different. Wednesday evenings with Finn Rayner and Thursday evenings with Tomi Tatham.
- Strength & Conditioning: weights, functional movement and cardio, Tuesday and Thursday at 6am.
- Cross Training: Thursday evenings with Tomi.
- Weighted HIIT and Circuits: with Louise Coates, building the work capacity you'll need between runs.
Three of these a week, plus your own running, is a solid winter base for most people. You'll find full descriptions on our fitness classes page and current times on the weekly timetable.
Coached by People Who Race
Hyrox advice is everywhere online. What's harder to find is a coach in the room who can watch your sled push and tell you why it's slowing down.
Our founder, Tomi Tatham, competes in Hyrox as well as strongman and powerlifting. Before that he was a professional boxer, ranked #4 in the UK at light heavyweight, so he knows what it takes to prepare for a set date. Louise Coates coaches Hyrox, CrossFit, powerlifting and HIIT. Karrina Howe, our S&C coach and BSc Sports Therapist with British Weightlifting Level 2, has spent ten years working with athletes and can help you train hard without breaking down.
If you want a programme built around your race date, a few one-to-one sessions alongside classes is often the most efficient way to get there. Ask about personal training when you call.
A Sample Winter Training Week
Here's a simple structure we'd suggest for a first-time racer building through the winter. Adjust it to your fitness and your work pattern.
- Monday: easy run, 30 to 40 minutes, at a pace you could chat at
- Tuesday: Strength & Conditioning class at 6am
- Wednesday: T-Rox in the evening
- Thursday: intervals on the ski erg and rower, then sled pushes
- Friday: rest, or an easy walk
- Saturday: Circuits, then a short run straight afterwards
- Sunday: longer easy run on the lanes around Cowan Bridge or Kirkby Lonsdale
The pattern matters more than the detail: a couple of easy runs, a couple of strength-focused sessions and one or two sessions that join running and stations together. Consistency through the dark months beats a perfect plan you abandon by Christmas.
Which Membership Suits Hyrox Training?
For most people, Gym + 3 Classes at £80 a month is the right fit. You get full gym access for station work and three coached classes a week. If you live near us but work in Lancaster, the TNT + TNT Elite membership gives you both gyms for the same £80.
Want to try the kit before you commit? A £10 Day Pass or a £25 Week Pass lets you train on the sled track and ski erg and see whether we're the right gym for your build. Every option is on our memberships page, and you can see more about how we coach on our train page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I train for Hyrox at TNT Fitness?
Yes. We have a 10m sled track, a ski erg, rowers, sandbags, wall balls and kettlebells, so you can train every Hyrox station on site. Our coaches include people who race and coach Hyrox.
Do I need to be fit before I start Hyrox training?
No. Plenty of people start their first build at an everyday fitness level. Starting early, ideally three or four months before your race, matters far more than where you begin.
How many times a week should I train for Hyrox?
For a first race, three to five sessions a week works well for most people. Mix easy running, strength work and a session or two that combines running with stations.
Is T-Rox a Hyrox class?
T-Rox is our functional, total-body class, built on the kind of movements Hyrox tests. It's a great fit for Hyrox training, but it's open to everyone, whether or not you've entered a race.
How far is TNT Fitness from Kirkby Lonsdale and Ingleton?
We're on the A65 at Cowan Bridge, between the two, a short drive from either. There's plenty of parking on site and we're open 5am to 10pm every day.
Can I train at the gym outside class times?
Yes, with a gym membership. Our monthly memberships give you open gym access from 5am to 10pm, seven days a week. Class bundles cover classes only.
